Kim Jong Il is gone, but his kingdom of insanity lives on - The VICE Guide to North Korea
This is actually a pretty good doc on North Korea. It’s less “Oh these poor people, they are a bunch of machines!” and tries to portray them with some dignity. They show North Koreans elated at things other than their Supreme Leader: the tour guide’s yearning for a cigarette, the karaoke host laughing and flirting. It’s almost like they are human beings! Although the last segment, Anarchy in the N.K, is kind of icky when he is so blown away that they never heard punk music. Even if they weren’t in an oppressive regime, would it matter that they don’t know pinpoints in Western culture? I’m sure there are other places in the world where the Sex Pistols are obsolete.
